I like gardening so this absolutely fascinating to me. I had to share :)
I just stumbled on this related article. This company has created a complete indoor eco system, complete with plants being fertilised with waste from integrated fish tank -http://www.engadget.com/2015/11/03/grove-ecosystem-aquaponics-kickstarter/
Ever since my wife bought me A6000 Sony camera in 2014, I have been fascinated by vintage lenses. I orginally liked A6000 because it was nice and compact. This was because A6000 does not require mirrors unlike other SLRs. These lenses meant that standard SLRs had to be bulky (and quite ugly in my opinion). It also claimed to be the fastest at auto-focusing which I thought was a big deal, but now, because I use vintage lenses primarily, it is of no use to me. Over the last few years, adapters have become as cheap as chips. I straight away got an A to E mount adapter to use with my old ninties Minolta lenses. It worked great! Incidently, Sony bought out Minolta so earlier versions inherited the Minolta A type mount. In the last few years Sony changed the mount to E type for use in its NEX range.

Anyhow, I getting obsessive with buying more and more lenses off e-bay. I guess I am not alone. The price of 30-40 year old lenses that no one wanted before are in great demand now. But still, they are not as expensive as new ones, very sturdy and the quality of many of the lenses are fantastic.

My personal favorites are

  • Carl Zeiss Jena 135mm lowest f-stop 3.5
  • Pentax - M SMC 50mm lowest f-stop 1.7.
Both made in the 70s and M42 mount. Both are very sharp and the bokeh is awesome.

Here are some of the photos I have taken with these two lenses

I also have the following lenses:

  • Jupiter 11A 135mm f4 M42 - Also very sharp, made in the old USSR in the 60s
  • S.M.C Takumar 28mm f3.5 Pentax - I am not sure about this one. It is not as sharp but it's still quite good and made in the 60s
  • Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 50mm f2.8 - Not a big fan of this one. Pentax 50mm is so much better
  • Helios-44M 58MM f2 - Also good in certain light conditions but not my favorite. I still have this because the lens I have is in pretty good condition for its age.

So here is my wishlist:

Pentax Super-Takumar 200mm f4
It is supposed to be super sharp and scores highly on all other attributes. Review here

Pentacon / Meyer Optik Gorlitz Orestogor 135mm F2.8

This is one of the finest 135mm M42 lenses ever made. Extremely sharp. The only downside is it's very heavy. Almost 1kg. Lately, it has become really expensive. Some go for £180 on e-bay. Review here
Sigma 400mm f5.6
400mm and sharp. I have bought this but it I have not received it yet. Review here

Petri or Cosina 28mm F:2 Superfast wideangle
This is also a very good sharp lens. Not too expensive yet and goes for around £85. Be careful not to confuse this with the cheaper, slower 2.8 version.

Carl Zeiss 35mm F2.4 Flektogon MC
I have heard mixed reviews about this. Some say it is very sharp and some say less so.
But I feel I have to try this out. I saw some nice photos taken through this glass

I will update this list periodically
